The New Quarterly’s Wild Writers Festival

I’m heading out to Waterloo for The Wild Writers Festival, where I’ll be participating in a writer’s panel on Saturday the 8th of November with George Murray, Amanda Jernigan and Bruce Taylor. Last year’s festival was incredible, with sold-out events and great venues. Edited to add: A really fabulous festival with lots of surprises, including George Murray’s marriage proposal to Elisabeth de Mariaffi at our panel. If I’d known beforehand, I might have reconsidered my impassioned rant against sentimentalism in poetry. It was great to spend an evening at a run-down pub with Stevie Howell and her partner Neil Harrison, listening to a lone guy with a beer gut and a strat singing his ass off in the corner with a very trebly amp.
